About the Webinar
New Zealand has the highest rates of Melanoma in the world and surgery remains the mainstay of treatment of melanoma. In this webinar, the surgical issues to be discussed will include:

  • wider excision
  • margins
  • the use of sentinel lymph node biopsy;
  • as well as the importance and explanation of the pathology report.


Meet your Presenters

 Richard Martin (Surgical Oncologist, Head/Neck and General Surgeon), Auckland, New Zealand

Richard is a New Zealand trained General Surgeon who spent two and a half years at the Sydney Cancer Centre specialising in Melanoma and Head and Neck Surgery. Most of his time was spent at the Sydney Melanoma Unit, the largest treatment and research facility for melanoma in the world.


During his time in Sydney he completed a Master of Surgery in Surgical Oncology at the University of Sydney. As a Surgical Oncologist Richard assesses and treats all forms of melanoma, skin and head/neck cancer.

Richard works in the multidisciplinary Melanoma Unit team, at Waitemata District Health Board, and is part Auckland Regional Head and Neck Service. Other roles include: Faculty member of World Melanoma Congress, Chairman of the New Zealand Melanoma Standards Working Group, MELNET (Executive committee member), Melanoma Foundation of New Zealand (Board member), International Sentinel Node Society (Executive Committee member), Australian and New Zealand Melanoma Trials Group (ANZMTG, Executive committee member).
